MCC comes up big in sub-regional
ROCHESTER - The MCC volleyball team played one of its finest matches of the season Tuesday, overcoming a slow start to defeat Herkimer County CC in a Region III sub-regional contest.
The Tribunes prevailed 18-25, 25-16, 25-11, 25-20. Monroe (16-14) now advances to the regional tournament this weekend at Corning Community College. Pool play is Saturday and the semifinals and finals are Sunday.
Sarah Zelko (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) had a huge match for MCC, tallying 29 assists, 17 digs, three kills, two blocks and one ace. Sarah Kuperus (Newark, NY/Newark) was big at the net all night and finished with 16 kills, four blocks, and one dig.
Symphony Samuels (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta) added eight kills and three blocks, while Rachael Gnage (Williamson, NY/Williamson) had 18 digs, five aces, and five kills.
Tamara Robertson (Victor, NY/Victor) totaled 17 digs, five kills and two aces and Jordan Bandera (Syracuse, NY/Solvay) registered 22 digs.
