Mercyhurst outlasts Monroe
ROCHESTER - The MCC volleyball team lost a tight match Thursday, as Mercyhurst North East pulled away in the deciding fifth game to come away with the victory.
Scores were 25-23, 21-25, 25-21, 23-25, 15-9 in favor of the Saints. MCC falls to 4-6 on the season.
The Tribunes trailed 19-16 in the fourth game before rallying to force the final game. MCC led early in the fifth, but Mercyhurst responded with a 9-3 run to close it out.
Sarah Zelko (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) had a solid all-around match with 11 kills, 10 assists, six digs, and four aces. Lisa Stefanik (Greece, NY/Greece Arcadia) chipped in with 10 assists and two kills.
Sarah Kuperus (Newark, NY/Newark) tallied six kills, Tamara Robertson (Victor, NY/Victor) had five aces and three kills, and Katie Lasch (Greece, NY/Greece Arcadia) added four kills for Monroe.
