MCC goes 2-1 at Pod Tournament
ROCHESTER - The MCC volleyball team won twice and lost once in its Region III Pod Tournament Saturday afternoon.
The Tribunes defeated Tompkins Cortland CC, lost to Broome CC, and topped Corning CC. Monroe finishes 13-4 in regional play and is 25-11 overall.
MCC opened by defeating Tompkins Cortland in five games. Ashley Kelly (Greece, NY/Greece Athena) and Kelsi Blum (Livonia, NY/Livonia) had 14 kills apiece to lead the way. Blum also added eight digs.
Virginia Combs (Penfield, NY/Mercy) handed out 35 assists, and Erica Thompson (Liverpool, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) had four blocks.
The Tribunes were up two games to none against Broome before the Hornets rebounded to win the next three. Combs finished with 31 assists, five digs, and five kills, and Blum added 11 kills, five digs, and five aces.
MCC finished the afternoon by sweeping three games from Corning CC. Blum had 12 kills and nine digs and Kelly added 11 kills. Combs handed out 32 assists.
