MCC goes 1-2 out west

After winning the first game, the MCC women’s basketball team dropped two in a row to two of the top teams in the country at the Desert Classic at Central Arizona College.

Fifth-ranked Central Arizona topped the Lady Tribunes 73-60 on Friday. The Vaqueras built an 18-point lead in the first half before MCC fought back, twice cutting the lead to two in the second half.  But each time Central Arizona was able to restore double-digit leads and pull away.

Charmonique Watt (Brooklyn, NY/Lincoln) led the Tribunes with 14 points, Allyssa Lane (Winter Park, FL/Winter Park) and Keona Jones (Brooklyn, NY/Grand Street) each scored 12, and Jimerea Lee (Philadelphia, PA/Neumann-Goretti) had 11.

Krissy Rosario (Atlantic City, NJ/Absegami) added nine points and 13 rebounds.

MCC (3-5) wrapped up the weekend by falling to No. 11 Southern Idaho 70-55 on Saturday. Watt led the way with 13, while Lane added a dozen.  Kamiel Brown (Jamaica, NY/South Shore) had 11 points and two steals.

The Tribunes defeated defending national champion Odessa College 59-57 in the first game of the trip.
