MCC women win Pavia opener
ROCHESTER - The MCC women's basketball team rolled to a 79-38 victory over Oakland CC in the first round of the 2011 Pete Pavia Memorial Scholarship Basketball Tournament Saturday.
The Tribunes (12-3), the top-ranked defensive team in the nation, held the Raiders to 25 percent shooting on the game. Monroe will take on Lakeland CC at 2 p.m. Sunday for the Pavia title.
Ivory James (Camden, NJ/Woodrow Wilson) hit four 3-pointers and had a game-high 20 for Monroe. Ayana Bradley (Syracuse, NY/Corcoran) added 17 points and 14 rebounds.
Shan-tasia Padgett (Roselle, NJ/Abraham Clark) had another strong all-round game with 15 points, five assists, four rebounds, and four steals.
MCC held a 52-33 advantage on the glass and jumped out to a 20-point lead at the half.
