MCC tops No. 3 Chipola in rare DH split
MARIANNA, FL - The 14th-ranked MCC women's basketball team had a grueling task Friday, as the Tribunes took on two top-10 teams in the same afternoon.
Monroe earned a split of the rare hoops doubleheader, falling to No. 7 Gulf Coast CC 64-54 before coming back to defeat third-ranked Chipola College 63-61.
Krystal Parnell (Brooklyn, NY/Murray Bergtraum) iced the victory over Chipola, knocking down two free throws with 17 seconds remaining. Monroe had led by 13 before the Indians limed back into the game.
Deree Fooks (Camden, NJ/Woodrow Wilson) led MCC with 19 points and also had eight rebounds. Shanee Williams (Queens, NY/Murray Bergtraum) added 16 points and Parnell had nine points, eight assists, and five rebounds.
The Tribunes led Gulf Coast at the half but the Commodores pulled away in the end. Fooks led MCC with 18 points while Danay Collier (Bronx, NY/JFK) chipped in with 12.
