Rosario's last-second heroics leads Monroe
COOLIDGE, AZ - Sophomore Krissy Rosario (Atlantic City, NJ/Absegami) scored on a layup with less than a second left to give the MCC women's basketball team a 59-57 victory over defending national champion Odessa College Thursday.
The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Tribunes (3-3).
MCC was up 57-55 when Odessa tied the game late. The Tribunes moved the ball up the court and called a timeout with 1.2 seconds left to set up one last play. Charmonique Watt (Brooklyn, NY/Lincoln) came off a double screen and MCC faked a pass to her before tossing it over the top to Rosario.
The 6-1 forward did the rest, grabbing the pass and putting it in for the game-winner.
Watt had a team-high 19 points to lead the Tribunes, who overcame 26 percent shooting and a 29-24 deficit at the half.
