Lady Tribunes hang on late
ROCHESTER - The MCC Lady Tribunes overcame 35 percent shooting and a big rebounding disadvantage to top visiting Genesee CC 72-67 Thursday.
Monroe (8-6 overall, 4-0 WNYAC) led by eight at the break and held on late to get the win over its thruway rival.
The Cougars outrebounded the Tribunes 58-40 on the game, including a huge 30-13 advantage on the offensive glass. The 20-9 advantage in second-chance points kept Genesee in the contest, but MCC was able to hang on.
Brittany Hilliard (Washington, D.C./Theodore Roosevelt) led the Tribunes with a game-high 21. Allyssa Lane (Winter Park, FL/Winter Park) had 18 points and four assists and Kristina Rosario (Atlantic City, NJ/Absegami) had 15 points, eight rebounds, and four steals.
Lane and Rosario each scored 13 in the second half, including some big free throws down the stretch to help ice the game. Hilliard hit two foul shots with just under two seconds left to finish it off. Photo by Ron Andrews
