MCC women return to nationals
VALHALLA, NY - The MCC women's basketball team won the District C tournament over the weekend and will return to the NJCAA Division I national championship.
The Lady Tribunes defeated host Globe Institute 80-63 on Sunday to clinch the title. MCC topped Vincennes University 63-42 on Friday night.
Monroe had a big second half against Globe in the title game. Trailing by five at the break, MCC took control over the final 20 minutes to run away with the victory.
Charmonique Watt (Brooklyn, NY/Lincoln) had a hot hand and finished with a 20 points. Brittany Hilliard (Washington, D.C./Theodore Roosevelt) added 21.
Hilliard led the way against Vincennes with 16 points. Monroe also had a slow start in the game, using a zone defense to pull away after being tied at the half.
The Tribunes (20-7) will have a week off before heading to Salina, KA for the national tournament, which will be held March 18-22.
