MCC women win Pavia championship

ROCHESTER - Tournament MVP Shan-tasia Padgett (Roselle, NJ/Abraham Clark) had 17 points to lead the MCC women's basketball team to a 78-58 win over Lakeland CC in the championship of the 2011 Pete Pavia Memorial Scholarship Basketball Tournament Sunday.

Padgett also added nine rebounds, seven assists, three steals, and two blocks for the Lady Tribunes, who won their eighth straight to move to 13-3 on the season.

The Lakers kept it closely, trailing by as few as four points midway through the first half.  But Monroe turned it on and lead by 14 at the break.  A big edge on the glass helped keep MCC in front the rest of the way.

Sehmonyeh Allen (Freehold, NJ/Neptune) scored a game-high 21 for the Tribunes. 

Ayana Bradley (Syracuse, NY/Corcoran) added 13 points and nine rebounds, and Ivory James (Camden, NJ/Woodrow Wilson) had 10 points and six boards.  Shaquaya Daniels (Harlem, NY/JFK) chipped in with four points, eight assists, and five steals.

James and Bradley were named to the All-Tournament team.
