Defending champs knock off Monroe in OT

GODFREY, IL - The top-ranked MCC women's soccer team suffered its first defeat of the season, falling 3-2 in overtime to No. 4 and defending national champion Lewis & Clark CC Saturday.

The Lady Tribunes are now 11-1 on the season.

LCCC jumped out to an early 2-0 lead and carried that advantage into the half.  Monroe then bounced back strong to tie the score and send it into overtime.

MCC's first goal came in the 59th minute from Chelsey Semrau (Greece, NY/Greece Arcadia), who took a pass from Veronica Santiago (Rochester, NY/Aquinas) and scored from 25 yards out to make it 2-1.

The Tribunes then got the equalizer just three minutes later as Anne Beinetti (Honeoye Falls, NY/Homeschooled) scored on a header off a cross from Santiago.

Katya Clark scored 1:39 into the sudden-death overtime for the win for Lewis & Clark.

Rachel Popowych (Hamlin, NY/Brockport) finished with seven saves for the Tribunes.
