MCC moves on to 5th/6th game

MELBOURNE, Fla. - Shauna Eccles (Dublin, Ireland/Larkin) scored twice and the MCC held off a late rally to defeat Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa 2-1 in the consolation bracket of the NJCAA Division I women's soccer national tournament Friday.

The Tribunes (17-5-2) will play either Butler Community College or Waubonsee Community College at 10 a.m. Sunday in the 5th/6th place game.

MCC controlled the possession for most of the first half, but it was just before intermission in the 41st minute when Monroe broke through.

Karly Tolentino (Greece, NY/Greece Odyssey) tracked down a loose ball to the left of the goalie and sent a perfect pass to Eccles along the crease. The freshman midfielder punched it home for a 1-0 lead.

Eccles wasted little town adding to the lead in the second half, blasting a long shot in the first minute that went over the Tonkawa keeper for a 2-0 lead.

Northern Oklahoma added a goal with 9:56 remaining to cut the lead in half, but couldn't get the equalizer.
