MCC rebounds to top Navarro
ALBANY, GA - Brianna Diaz (Churchville, NY/Churchville-Chili) had a goal and two assists as the MCC women's soccer team topped Navarro College 4-0 in the consolation bracket of the NJCAA Division I national tournament.
The Tribunes (15-3) will play for fifth place against either Schoolcraft College or Polk CC at 12 p.m. Sunday.
Diaz helped get Monroe on the board in the ninth minute. The sophomore sent a sharp pass to Victoria Begy (Livonia, NY/Livonia), who one-timed it past the Navarro goalie for a 1-0 lead.
Diaz found the back of the net herself in the 22nd minute, taking a pass from Amanda Cassano (Hamilton, Ont./Bishop Ryan) and scoring for a 2-0 lead.
Maura Martin (Chili, NY/Gates Chili) tallied MCC's third goal with 19:32 left in the second half off a pass from Diaz.
Aveann Douglas (Arma, Trinidad/St. George's) finished the scoring four and a half minutes later, taking a pass from Casey Reinhardt (Hilton, NY/Hilton), juking between two defenders and around another, and hitting the left side of the goal.
Kimika Forbes (Plymouth, Tobago/Scarborough) made 12 saves in the net for the Tribunes.
