MCC finishes strong at nationals

ALBANY, GA - The MCC women’s soccer team finished off its season in dominating fashion, defeating Polk CC 6-1 to capture fifth place at the NJCAA Division I national tournament at Darton College.

Leighana Krzyzanowski (Ontario, NY/Wayne) had two goals and Brianna Diaz (Churchville, NY/Churchville) had one goal and three assists for the Tribunes, who avenged a 1-0 loss to Polk on Sept. 28.

Maura Martin (Rochester, NY/Gates Chili) got MCC on the board with 8:35 left in the opening half, taking a pass from Diaz and beating the keeper to the right side of the goal for a 1-0 lead.

Rachel Murphy (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) scored next for MCC, giving the Tribunes a 2-0 lead just before the break.

Diaz and Krzyzanowski scored in a span of 44 seconds early in the second half to break the game open.

MCC’s fifth goal came in the 63rd minute as Stephanie Perrotti (East Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse-Minoa) headed the ball in off a perfect corner kick from Deanna DiNardo (Chili, NY/Churchville-Chili).  Krzyzanowski scored the game’s last goal with 8:07 left on a pass from Murphy.

Kimika Forbes (Plymouth, Tobago/Scarborough) made eight saves for MCC, which finishes the season with a record of 16-3.
