No. 1 MCC rolls past CCRI
ROCHESTER - The top-ranked MCC women's soccer team picked up its biggest win of the season to date, defeating No. 3 Community College of Rhode Island 2-0 Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Tribunes improved to 9-0 with the victory, while the Knights fell to 7-1.
Monroe scored both goals in the first half. Veronica Santiago (Rochester, NY/Aquinas) got MCC on the board in the 14th minute, taking a pass from Anne Beinetti (Honeoye Falls, NY/Homeschooled) and beating the CCRI goalie for a 1-0 lead.
MCC's second goal came in the 28th minute, as Ashley Wilson (Ravena, NY/R-C-S) knocked a shot off a Rhode Island defender and in.
Rachel Popowych (Hamlin, NY/Brockport) made five saves to record the shutout for Monroe.
