MCC women take second at nationals; Branca wins individual title

MCC men and women capture regional, district titles

2008 NJCAA 1,650-yard freestyle National Champion Daniel Branca with head coach Dan Dubois, left, and assistant Tim Dubois, right.

The 2006-2007 Swimming and Diving season marked one of Monroe Community College’s most successful years in recent history.  This foundation will be used to foster continued success as Monroe Swimming and Diving enters the 2007-2008 season.  With a strong sophomore class returning for 2007-2008 the TEAM will be complimented by a solid freshmen recruiting class. This additional talent will generate the momentum necessary to exceed the success of previous teams. Both the men’s and women’s teams will look to defend their Region III titles and improve on team national finishes of third place for the men and NJCAA National Runner-up (second place) honors for the women.

              NJCAA National Runners-up

In 2007, our teams produced an individual National Champion in the Men's 200 Breaststroke (Kazuma Uda) and five CSCAA All-Americans in nine individual events. Our women's team earned NJCAA National Runner-Up (2nd place) honors for the second time in the school’s history. Additional honors include the eighth straight men's Region III championship title, which is the 10th in the past 11 years.  The women’s team also captured the Regional title in 2007; securing their 10th title in the past 11 years. The MCC TEAM set three new school and five regional records during the 2006-2007 season.  Furthermore, the coaching staff received the 2007 NJCAA Women's Coach of the Year honors for the third time since 2000 and the Men's Region III Coach of the Year for the fourth straight year.

The coaching team strives to maintain the success they've enjoyed together over the past few years.  Dan and Tim Dubois will return for their 12th season along with Diving coach Scott Josephson for his fourth. This TEAM coaching continuity has contributed greatly to the success of the program and has produced three individual national champions in seven events and one national record since 2002.  2002 also marks the inception of Monroe’s Swimming and Diving Student-Athlete Success Program, which is designed to foster student development. The organization of this value system focuses our student-athlete's energy on areas that enhance holistic student success. It is expected that our student-swimmers do all that they are capable of to be good TEAMmates, excellent students, and successful athletes. Collectively our TEAM is focused on excellence and attempting to be better tomorrow then they were today.
