TEAM Building

The Monroe Swimming and Diving program prides itself on creating a TEAM environment.  Integral to TEAM, each member is challenged to appreciate the bigger picture.  How can I be better?  How can I contribute to our TEAM in a positive way?   How can the whole (our TEAM) be bigger than the sum of its parts (individuals).  We accomplish this in many ways.  We reward and encourage positive relationships.  We get together outside of our practice times.  We have a TEAM building day, including our now infamous fireside chat.  We do community service projects together.  We travel to Florida for several days in January.  We work on TEAM every day.  The coaches use a very simple analogy every year.  We equate our season-long journey together as a climb up a TEAM mountain.  We start at the bottom and work our way up the precipitous mountain utilizing courage, pride, togetherness, and sacrifice.  During the long haul there will be ups and downs, good days and bad days… days we will need our TEAMmates to help us through.  In the end, WE, not any one individual will stand at the crest of the summit and together WE will celebrate our beautiful view and the journey WE have made together.

During the frigid winter the TEAM escapes to the sunny shores of Indian Rocks Beach, Florida for an eight-day training trip.  The TEAM lives, trains, and eats together to create a bonding experience like no other. A pair of two-hour long course practices each day gives the TEAM the edge it needs to head into the championship season.  The training trip is considered one of the highlights of the season, second only to our national competition.

TEAM Building has helped Monroe Community College become one of the most respected swim teams in the NJCAA.
