2008 Season Outlook

This year, MCC intends to reestablish itself as a contender at the National Championship.  With last year’s disappointing Regional finish, and the inability to defend its National Title from 2006, the returning players have something to prove.  Tyler French and Dave Mon, this year’s returners, have expressed a desire to put this team back on top.  They are motivating the rest of the team to return MCC Golf back to a position of national contention.

This year’s first-year players are:  Chris Clare, Anthony Colosi, Derek Doyle, Kevin Kaye, Nick Lomenzo, Brian Ragne and Jordan Wilson.  This group of players was led in fall by Kevin Kaye who has set his goal of an individual national title.  This team has good depth with at least three of the postseason slots up for grabs.  The players that claim those spots will do so because of consistency.  Each one has shown the ability to shoot scores in the middle 70’s.  It will be the players who keep their bad day closer to 80 that will determine who wins those coveted spots.

Team’s are defined and redefined every year, especially in Junior College athletics.  This year’s sophomores will have to show the freshmen what it takes to succeed.  Success means playing your best golf at the right time.

Our goals include a scoring average of 300 or less and a national ranking inside the top five.  We are also shooting for another Region III title and to be in the last wave on the final day at the National Championship with a chance to win.  To achieve these goals, we will again focus most of our time on and around the green.  We will expand our focus this year to how we approach the green and how good pars really are.  Learning how and when to attack or defend is critical to shooting low scores.
