MCC Opens Disc Golf Course
MCC Disc Golf Course Rules
College leaders tossed the “first disc” at the opening of MCC’s new disc golf course on All College Day, Thursday, Aug. 30, 2007 on the east side of the Brighton Campus. Faculty, staff and students attended the opening and learned more about the sport through a demonstration hosted by MCC’s Health and Physical Education Department.

The course maximizes the campus’ beautiful landscape — including the pond, field and back woods —making it enjoyable for players. It’s a great place to experience the sport for the first time, and it offers significant challenges for seasoned players.
Located off the college’s Campus Drive, the 18-hole course was designed by David Thomas, recreation supervisor for the Town of Riga and disc golf enthusiast. The course satisfies Professional Disc Golf Association standards and is anticipated to attract regional and national competitions.
Disc golf was formalized in the 1970s with players throwing flying discs into a Disc Pole Hole® basket. Similar to traditional golf, the objective is to complete each “hole” in the fewest number of strokes. The sport provides an inexpensive opportunity for upper and lower body conditioning and aerobic exercise. Players can walk or run the course in one to two hours.
MCC’s course is free and open to the public. A course kiosk at hole number one provides a map of the course and general information. Players must use their own discs. Parking is available in the last row of Lot G. Players are encouraged to put a note on the dashboard indicating that they are playing disc golf.
