Meet the Coaches
Head Men's Soccer Coach
Nelson Cupello (20th year; 254-81-21)

Coach Cupello is a former All-American at Monroe Community College and
at SUNY Brockport, which he led to the NCAA National Championship.
He has played professional soccer for the Rochester Lancers in
the North American Soccer League (NASL) from 1975-80. He also played for
the Rochester Flash in the American Soccer League from 1981-83. Upon his
retirement from professional playing, he concentrated on coaching. He was
the assistant coach at MCC from 1978-84.
Cupello became the head coach at SUNY Fredonia in 1985, taking them to five
SUNYAC tournament appearances while winning or sharing the championship three times.
Fredonia appeared in the NCAA tournament four out of five years and lost
twice in the semifinals.
He returned home in 1990 to coach the Tribunes and carry
on the tradition. His team has made the regional tournament14 consecutive
years, winning in 1995, 2002, 2004, 2006, and 2007.
In 2002, Cupello was inducted into the NJCAA Soccer Hall of Fame for his accomplishments while an athlete here at MCC. He is the first former athlete from the college to be inducted. He has also been recognized by his peers as Region III Coach of
the Year six times and Northeast Coach of the Year twice.
Coach Cupello resides in Rochester with his wife, Molly, and their three boys, Nelson, Tim, and Ryan.

Assistant Coach
Mike Schluter

Coach Schluter is in his eighth year as an assistant at MCC. Mike is a former Tribune
who also played for SUNY Brockport, where he was the team captain. He
is married with two children, and teaches physical education at Chestnut
Ridge Elementary School in Chili, NY.
Mike started his coaching career
in 1978. His Hilton-Parma Soccer Club U16 boys team won the New York
State Championship. He also coached at the high school level for several
years, winning coach of the year honors and a section V championship
in 1990 for Churchville Chili High School.
He has previous experience
at the collegiate level as an assistant at RIT, and is a former state
ODP coach. He holds a USSF "B" coaching license and the NSCAA
"Advance National" certificate.

Assistant Coach
Cihan Nuhoglu
Coach Nuhoglu is in his second year with the Tribunes. He played two years for MCC before finishing up his collegiate career at Pfeiffer University. He later went on to play professionally for K. Maras in Turkey. Nuhoglu also coaches youth boys and girls soccer.
Assistant Coach
Josh Gleason
Gleason works with the Tribune goalkeepers. An All-American goalie, he helped lead the Tribune soccer team to a 26-8-4 record in 1995 and 1996. He was a first team All-Region selection in 1996 and registered an outstanding .24 Goals Against Average. Gleason was named MCC’s Male Athlete of the Year in 1997.
