| Begin planning for transfer the semester you start
your degree at Monroe Community College. Careful planning for a smooth
transfer involves counseling/advisement, articulation, career
counseling, financial and scholarship planning.
The Career Center can assist you with this process as
you select courses/major, transfer colleges, and fill out application
materials. There are some basic guidelines to follow when creating a
plan for transfer which include: |
| |
| Identify a Career Path |
| Assessing
your interests, skills, abilities, and values may help you in your career
decision-making process. Career Counselors
are available to assist you in determining which majors are associated
with specific career areas. |
| |
| Research Transfer Colleges |
| The
more you know about your school choices and the sooner you determine this,
the smoother your transfer will be. When selecting a transfer college you
may want to consider the following: location, size, type (public/private),
cost, campus life, housing, student body, overall entrance requirements,
2+2/Articulation Agreement, and internship opportunities.
Most transfer colleges/universities will
accept between 60-68 credits from two-year colleges in transfer. When
researching, pay specific attention to the general education requirements,
what your selected major entails, and any other course/degree
requirements. |
| |
| Meet with a Transfer
Advisor/Counselor |
| Discuss transferring with a counselor/advisor
in the Career Center. Talk about your interests,
academic goals, course selection and the transfer admission process. This
is an excellent opportunity to have your transcript reviewed and to plan
your MCC courses for optimal transfer. |
| |
| Request Information |
| Request
transfer admission information, catalogs and applications from the
colleges of your choice. Ask if there are any additional requirements for
the major that you are declaring. The Career Center has
applications and catalogs from many NY colleges/universities for
students. |
| |
| Visit Transfer Colleges |
| Call and
make an appointment with the admissions office at the colleges you are
interested in transferring to or attend an "Open House" specifically for
transfer students. In addition, make an appointment to meet with the
department in which you plan to major. Discuss your transfer
plan.
