President’s Award

Bob Cunningham

Robert Cunningham has worked at MCC for more than a quarter of a century.  He began his career as a faculty member. He helped create MCC’s Heating Ventilating and Air Conditioning Program. Late last month, Cunningham, who has been director of academic facilities and learning environments for the past ten years, received MCC’s 2007 President’s Award for Service.

Cunningham is currently working on two Brighton Campus projects – the Wolk Center for Excellence in Nursing and the PAC Center, a new health and fitness facility. “MCC is a cool place,” he said. “I get to take gray ideas and turn them into black and white.”

Because of his mechanical background, Cunningham is able to speak the language of those architects and engineers he works with on college building projects. He also has a first-hand perspective on the environmental priorities of faculty and staff since he still continues to teach twice a week. According to Cunningham, both his mechanical expertise and his teaching experience have enabled him to better understand the vision of the college. “I really look forward to coming to work,” he said. “It’s such an incredible place where no one accomplishes anything alone; everyone works together.

The President’s Award is given annually to honor an employee who has consistently given service to MCC beyond the call of duty.
