Peer Leaders
Peer Leader Job Description
This
is a unique job opportunity for returning students who enjoy helping
people and want to gain experience in public relations and student
personnel services. This job involves assisting faculty and staff
in a variety of student services areas. Peer
Leaders are employed by the Student Services Center on the Damon City
Campus. Areas of assignments and responsibilities include the Academic
Advisement Center, Orientation and Advisement and Registration Programs,
Placement Testing, Peer Leader Help Desk, Career and Transfer Center,
Student Services Front Desk, Financial Services, Telecommunications
campaigns, and campus tours.A Peer Leader candidate
should be outgoing, friendly and possess strong communication and leadership
skills. A candidate must have a GPA of 2.25 or above, a basic knowledge
and interest in campus programs and services, and a positive view of Monroe
Community College.
Students
employed in these positions must be available to work all assigned
Orientation and Advisement and Registration activities (dates will
be provided) and attend a training program. A paid training program
for all Peer Leaders is held several days during June each year. Peer
Leaders are paid a competitive wage per hour and are provided the
opportunity to earn college credit through internship coursework.
Peer Assistant Network Training
Program
Peer
Assistant Network Training is a comprehensive student development
program coordinated by DCC Student Services, the Brighton Counseling and Advising Center, and the Brighton Student Center. During this training,
students will explore and develop interpersonal, professional, and
leadership skills that allow them to grow into exceptional student
leaders. The program is designed to help Peer Leaders, Peer Advisors,
and Peer Mentors gain specific knowledge about College policies and
procedures, academic programs, co-curricular activities and organizations,
and student life which will enable them to effectively and professionally
assist the MCC student population.
