Advisement and Registration

Advising Programs and Services
Academic advisement
at Monroe Community College is a fluid process. It occurs in many places
and in a variety of formats. Listed below are the procedures that most
MCC students follow:
NEW, TRANSFER and
READMITTED Students:
FULL-TIME students are required to obtain advisement prior to registration.
New and transfer students are also required to participate in
the college-wide Orientation program which includes academic and student life components.
PART-TIME students are encouraged to seek advisement prior to registration,
and are also welcome to attend the orientation program.
CAREER program and some Liberal Arts students are advised through their
department's Program Advisement and Registration (PAR) activities.
PAR programs, held from April through August and November through
January, provide an opportunity to meet with departmental faculty
while receiving an academic orientation and advisement and registration
assistance. Some career students may also be advised in the Academic
Advisement Center once PAR programs have concluded.
LIBERAL
ARTS students are generally advised in the Academic
Advisement Centers. Students receive academic orientation
materials
and view a video to prepare for the
advising process on the Brighton Campus. Experienced faculty,
counselors and advisors are available on
a walk-in basis to provide information and to assist students
with considering options and with making informed decisions about
their educational plans.
RETURNING or CURRENTLY
ENROLLED Students:
CAREER students meet with faculty advisors in their departments for advisement
and registration. Students receive their CAPP Report at that time which outlines program requirements
and courses completed with the exception of the Business programs
students who receive On Course in the mail.
LIBERAL
ARTS students who participate in the Liberal
Arts Mentor Program meet with their assigned advisor prior
to registration. Most
other Liberal Arts students may seek advisement during designated
times in the Academic Advisement Centers.
Students should bring their
CAPP Report which outlines degree requirements and coursework
completed to the advising session. These reports are mailed out
in advance of priority registration. |
