Peer Advisors are employed by the Counseling and Advising Center on the
Brighton Campus. Areas of assignments and responsibilities include the
Academic Advisement Center, Program Advisement and Registration (PAR)
Programs, Placement Testing, and the Front Desk in the Counseling and
Advising Center.
A Peer Advisor candidate should be outgoing, friendly and possess
strong communication and leadership skills. A candidate must have
a GPA of 2.5 or above, a basic knowledge and interest in campus programs
and services, and a positive view of Monroe Community College.
Students employed
in these positions must be available to work all assigned Advisement
and Registration activities (dates will be provided) and attend training.
A paid training program for all Peer Advisors is held several days
during June each year. Peer Advisors are paid a competitive wage per
hour, and are provided the opportunity to earn college credit through
internship coursework.
Peer Assistant Network Training Program
The Peer Assistant Network Training is a comprehensive student development
program coordinated by the Counseling and Advising Center, Campus Center,
and DCC Student Services. During this training, students will explore
and develop interpersonal, professional and leadership skills that allow
them to grow into exceptional student leaders. The program is designed
to help the Peer Advisors, Peer Leaders and Peer Mentors gain specific
knowledge about College policies and procedures, academic programs, co-curricular
activities, organizations and student life which will enable them to effectively
and professionally assist the MCC student population.
