Ms. Blanchard practiced as a private practice dental hygienist before returning to school to study education. She also taught at the OSU-Lima campus in a newly developed dental hygiene program.

Professor Blanchard has spent many years teaching first year dental hygiene coursework and has had some second year experience as well. She was in the second MCC cohort to teach online in the SUNY LearnNet, beginning with “Barrier Precautions and Infection Control Measures”. She has also taught first year courses online to distance dental hygiene sites. Professor Blanchard uses an online learning management system for all courses.


Barbara Ellis, Instructor

An MCC Alumnus, Barbara Ellis brings to the faculty of the Dental Studies Program over twenty years of dental experience. Barbara is a Summa Cum Laude graduate from the University of Oswego where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Vocational Technical Education. She also holds her master’s degree from the University of Alabama where she majored in Health Education. Barbara is an active member of the Seventh District Dental Hygiene Association and the American Dental Hygiene Association. Currently, Barbara serves as the club advisor of Student Association of the Dental Hygiene Association (SADHA) here at Monroe Community College.

DR. CAMILLO F. FONTANA, Adjunct Professor

B.S. (Chemistry) - Union College
D.D.S. - Columbia University

Dr. Fontana’s primary role at the college is clinical instructor in the dental hygiene clinic. He also performs the role of supervising dentist and lectures in clinical dental hygiene. In addition, Dr. Fontana reviews dental radiographs prior to their release to patients and their dentists, and he acts as laison to preceptors of students of on-line dental assisting courses, visiting their dental offices across the state. Dr. Fontana provides continuing education to dental hygienists through Workforce Development.

In addition to teaching at MCC, Mary Therese Biltucci is currently working at the University of Rochester Eastman Institute for Oral Health as a Health Project Coordinator in The Research Administration Core for approximately the last 14 years.

Mary Therese Biltucci has 14 years of dental research experience that includes activities of Principal Investigator, Sub Investigator, Research Coordinator and Research Examiner.

Dr. Lawrence has taught at Monroe Community College since 1989. Besides being chairperson of the department since September 1996, he has been supervising dentist for the program since 1995. His interests include educational technology and distance learning.

SAROJ VISWANATHAN, D.D.S., Professor

D.D.S. - S.U.N.Y. School of Dentistry, Buffalo
Dr. Viswanathan has taught at Monroe Community College since 1974. Besides teaching clinical Dental Hygiene, she teaches Oral Pathology and Periodontics, Dental Therapeutics and Dental Materials in the Dental Studies Program.
