13th Annual High School Engineering Competition April 29, 2010

The next High School Engineering Competition, sponsored by MCC, will be held Thursday, April 29, 2010, at the R. Thomas Flynn Campus Center on the MCC Brighton Campus from 9 am - 1 pm. This year's competition included revised rules. Judged events included:

In addition, MCC will present a team championship trophy to the school that earns the most points in the four events. Points will be awarded as follows:
  • 1st: 4 points
  • 2nd: 3 points
  • 3rd: 2 points
  • 4th: 1 point
In case of a tie the winner is established by our tiebreaker rules. Please check back for results on the 2009 event. Please read all the rules and registration forms carefully as they are different from past years. Please call or email John Wadach at 292-2488 or jwadach@monroecc.edu if you have any questions or comments. Please follow these procedures to adequately prepare for the competition.

  1. Tell her what event(s) you plan to enter.
  2. Request an Auto Safety cart if you don't have 2
  3. Request a Power Supply if you don't have 2
  4. Request DC Motors for SumoBots and Cable Cars
  5. Request Tenergy 9V 250mAh NiMH rechargeable batteries and a charger

  1. Tell her how many students and teachers you will bring to the competition (please limit your group to about 30 students per teacher)
  2. How many Auto Safety Cars you will enter (max of 4)
  3. How many SumoBots you will enter (max of 4)
  4. How many Bridges you will enter (max of 4)
  5. How many Cable Cars you will enter (max of 4)

Competition Day

  1. Arrive at the MCC Campus Center on the MCC Brighton Campus between 9:00-9:30 a.m. Campus Map
  2. Bring a completed registration form for each Auto Safety Car, SumoBot, Wooden Bridge, and Cable Car entered. Also bring your wooden Auto Safety Bases and Power Supplies
  3. Pick up t-shirts for all your students and faculty.
  4. Pick up trophies. Each event will have trophies for 1st through 4th places. An overall team champion trophy will also be awarded to the High School earning the most overall points that enters all four events.
  5. Please have your students clean up their area and discard all trash before leaving at 1:00 p.m.
