"Alternative" Forms of Financial Aid
 For Students who may not qualify for or receive enough funding through the traditional financial aid programs,
there are still programs available that can provide financial assistance to students, in exchange for some type of
service requirement on the part of the student.
AmeriCorps
AmeriCorps is a national service program offering opportunities for individuals to serve their country through
community service. In return for successful completion of their service, Americorps members can receive an AmeriCorps
Education Award to pay educational expenses at qualified institutions of higher education, for educational training,
or to repay qualified student loans. In addition, many AmeriCorps members receive a modest living allowance.

New York State Volunteer Recruitment Service Scholarship
Under this program, New York State provides scholarships finds to volunteer firefighters and ambulance personnel. For
eligibility requirements and information on how to apply, visit the NYS Volunteer Recruitment Service

NYS National Guard Recruitment Incentive and Retention Program
This program is designed to recruit and retain quality members for the State Military Forces (Army and Air National Guard,
and Naval Militia). This competitive program will pay the cost of tuition up to a maximum of $4,350 per calendar year for

Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC)
The Reserve Officer Training Corps ( ROTC ) is a training program of the United States armed forces present on college
campuses to recruit and educate commissioned officers. In exchange for a service commitment, participants in ROTC programs
are eligible for scholarships to assist with their educational expenses.

Military Veterans Educational Benefits
The Department of Veterans Affairs administers several educational benefit programs for active duty military personnel,
reservists, and veterans. Programs include the Montgomery GI Bill (Chapter 30 & Chapter1606),
Reserve Educational Assistance Program (REAP), Survivors' and Dependents' Educational Assistance
Program , Vocational Rehabilitation & Employment Program (Chapter 31), and Work-Study Program .
