ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The community is invited to support student success at the Monroe Community College Foundation’s 6th annual 5K Walk/Run for Scholarships on Saturday morning, Oct. 6, on MCC’s Brighton Campus, 1000 East Henrietta Road, Rochester. The event is part of the Alumni Week and Homecoming 2012 lineup, sponsored by the foundation and the Campus Activities Board.
One MCC student participant will be randomly selected to receive a $250 scholarship at the conclusion of the race. Top finishers will also receive prizes. The registration fee is $18 per person for those who pre-register by Oct. 3; the fee will be $23 for those who register on Oct. 4 through race day. Contact the MCC Foundation at (585) 262-1500 or register online at www.monroecc.edu/go/alumni. Registration includes a commemorative T-shirt commemorating the college’s 50th anniversary. People wishing to donate and not participate in the 5K, will be able to do so online through the registration site.
Registration opens at 10 a.m.; MCC President Anne M. Kress, Ph.D. will start the race at 11 a.m. in Lot G at the Alumni Hospitality Tent. The 50th Anniversary Tailgate Party and Lunch, sponsored by Canandaigua National Bank, will be held immediately following the race. The hot buffet lunch is $8 per person. The scholarship drawing will be held at 12:30 p.m.
“This event is a great way to support students because a $250 scholarship is awarded immediately after the race and all proceeds raised are donated to the MCC Foundation’s general scholarship fund,” said the MCC Foundation’s Director of Development and MCC alumnus Mark Pastorella. “It is a great opportunity to see what your support means to students.”
The foundation hopes to raise at least $2,000 for student scholarships and attract 150 walkers and runners.
