Commencement Procedures for Summer Graduates

MCC hosts a Commencement Ceremony each spring for graduates and May candidates for graduation for the academic year. Since the academic year begins after the spring semester, a student completing requirements after May 30, 2014 will be invited to participate in the 2015 ceremony (details will be mailed April 2015).

If you are going to complete your program requirements this summer
(June 1 - August 31 2014) and wish to participate in this year's ceremony May 31, 2014 as a candidate for graduation, you must meet the following criteria to be considered for Early Attendance:

  1. File an Intent to Graduate application when you register for summer.
  2. Complete an Early Attendance Application for Commencement in person at Advising and Graduation Services - Brighton Campus or Student Services Offices - DCC any time during the first two weeks of May.
  3. Supply a copy of your paid summer schedule. If you are receiving financial aid, you may ask the Student Accounts Office to print a Financial Aid Deferment statement.
  4. You must have a GPA of 2.0 or higher when you apply for Early Attendance in order to participate in the Ceremony

Once you complete this process you will receive notification via student email of your graduation eligibility and whether you have been authorized to attend the ceremony this year. If you are eligible, the email will also contain commencement information and a voucher for your cap and gown. Your name will appear on an insert in the Commencement program.

PLEASE NOTE: YOU ARE NOT A GRADUATE UNTIL YOU HAVE SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED ALL OF YOUR PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS.
