Graduation Procedures

Students who wish to graduate must complete an Intent to Graduate
Application after registering for their last semester at MCC. If
the Intent to Graduate Application is not completed the student will
not be audited for graduation and will not receive his/her degree
and diploma. You can file your application online or may obtain an application at the Brighton Campus in the Graduation Office, and Counsling and Advising Center or at the Damon City Campus at the Student Services Center. Many departments at both campuses also make the applications available to thier students.
The Intent to Graduate Applications ask for
the following information:
- Name (As you would like it to appear on your diploma)
- Mailing Address
- Student ID (Your Banner ID "M" number or Social Security Number)
- Telephone Number
- Program for which you are requesting a degree
- Transfer Credit you are requesting from another institution that you previously attended
- Expected Date of Graduation
Once a student submits an Intent to Graduate
Application an initial audit is done to determine if he/she is in fact in the
process of completing the necessary courses for the degree. The student is then
notified in writing by the Graduation Office as to his/her prior eligibility.
If the student is eligible, a letter of prior eligibility is sent to the student.
If the student is not eligible, a letter is sent indicating the remaining requirements
and that the student may reapply at a later date.
Although there are seven graduation
dates, (October, December, January, March, May, July and August),
there is only one Commencement Ceremony. All graduates from July of
the previous year through May of the present year may participate
in the Spring Commencement Ceremony. In addition, students who will
be completing their studies during the July and August session immediately
following the Spring Commencement may request to participate in the
ceremony as an early candidate. However, these students must make
a formal request with the Graduation Office to participate. See Early Attendance for instructions.
Each April the Graduation Office mails
commencement information and instructions to graduates and candidates
for graduation. Information includes the location, date and time of
the ceremony, as well as where to pick up caps and gowns and where to assemble
prior to the ceremony. At the present time, tickets are not required
to attend the commencement ceremony. Graduates may invite as many
family members and friends as they wish. Commencement information
may also be obtained online at Ceremony Details.
NOTE: THERE IS NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE INVOLVED WITH GRADUATION OR COMMENCEMENT. |
