Each semester the Graduation Office oversees the Student Academic Action Process for the College. Students are placed on academic probation or academic suspension based on their cumulative grade point average.

Students should adhere to the Solutions to Academic Difficulty to help them be successful in their academic pursuits.

Students on academic probation are notified of their status via their student email. Students who have been placed on probation are allowed to continue as full time; the email will explain the conditions of their probation.

Students on academic suspension are notified of their status by letter and by student email and are given the opportunity to appeal their suspension through a written appeal process. An appeal form and Suspension Appeal Instructions accompanies each letter sent to a suspended student. For their convenience, students may file and appeal form on-line stating those factors that may have contributed to their academic difficulty and indicate their plans to improve their status should they be allowed to return as a full time student. Students on academic suspension are restricted from full time study and are limited to eight (8) credits maximum and are not eligible for financial aid while on suspension.

An Academic Appeals Committee comprised of faculty members and counselors reviews the appeal form. Each appeal is reviewed individually and a decision is made to sustain suspension, change to probation or change to good standing. Recommendations are made as to courses to be repeated, dropped and/or added to the student’s schedule. Suspended students must pick up their appeal decision and recommendations in person during the advisement hours listed in their original letter. At that time they will receive help to adjust their schedules for the upcoming semester.

All students who have been placed on academic suspension or probation who are also dependent upon financial aid to continue their studies should contact the Financial Aid Office to receive a determination on their financial aid eligibility.
