Q: How do I know if I have been placed on Suspension or Probation?
A: The Graduation Office sends letters at the end of each semester (Fall and Spring) to all students who have been placed on Academic Suspension or Academic Probation.
Q: What happens if I am placed on Academic Probation?
A: A Probation notice is a warning system to let students know that they are  in academic trouble.  A list of suggestions on how to improve your grade is sent to you if you have been placed on Academic Probation.  You are encouraged to seek advisement, tutoring and to attend workshops offered through the Counseling Center.
Q: May I register for a full schedule if I am placed on Probation?
A: Yes, however, it is recommended that you limit your schedule to 12 credits.
Q: Am I eligible for Financial Aid if I have been placed on Probation?
A: Yes, but you should always check with the Financial Aid Office to determine your eligibility.
Q: Do I have any restrictions placed on me if I have been placed on Academic Probation?
A: You are placed on Academic Probation for a period of one semester. During the semester, you may not hold a student or class office,  participate in intercollegiate functions, or be a public representative of the College.

Q: What happens if I am placed on Academic Suspension?
A: Academic Suspension does not deny you the right to continue studies at MCC. It does set a limit on the number of credits you may register for to 8 credits for the next semester.
Q: Am I eligible for financial aid if I have been placed on Suspension?
A: You are not eligible for financial aid, grants, or loans while on Suspension.
Q: Are there any other restrictions placed on me if I am Suspended?
A: If you are placed on Academic Suspension you may not hold a student or class office, participate in intercollegiate functions or be a public representative of the College.
Q: Is there any way I may have my Suspension status changed?
A: When you receive a Suspension letter, an Appeal Form will be included. You must complete the Appeal Form and return it to the Graduation Office by the deadline date indicated in the letter and on the Appeal Form. NO CHANGE OF STATUS WILL BE MADE WITHOUT AN APPEAL. A committee will read all appeals and make recommendations for the next semester. If you are changed to Probation, you may register for at least 12 credit hours.
Q: How do I appeal my suspension online?
A: Go to www.monroecc.edu/go/graduation
  • Click "Appeal Form"
  • Complete the Student Information
  • Scroll down and type your "Reason for Appeal"
  • Submit Appeal
Q: How am I made aware of the recommendations concerning my status?
A: Special registration dates are set for you to come to MCC to receive the response to your appeal. At that time, counselors and advisors will be available to help you make the necessary adjustments to your schedule.
Q: If I am changed to Probation will I be eligible for Financial Aid?
A: If you are changed from Suspension to Probation, you will need to contact the Financial Aid Office to determine your eligibility for any loans or grants.
Q: What if I choose not to appeal my Suspension?
A: If you choose not to appeal your Suspension, you may register for up to 8 credit hours. You will be responsible for your bill at the College since financial aid is not an option.
Q: What if I registered for more than 8 credits before I was notified that I had been Suspended? Will I be able to keep my schedule?
A: NO! The appeals committee will determine the number of credits you may take as well as the courses you need to repeat to bring your GPA up to a satisfactory level.
Q: What if I stay with a schedule of 9 or more credits and do not appeal?
A: Three (3) working days prior to the Fall or Spring semesters the Graduation Office deschedules students who are dependent upon financial aid and reduces to 8 credit hours those students who are responsible for their own bills.
Q: How can I raise my GPA so that I am not suspended in the future?
A: The quickest way to raise your GPA is to repeat courses with “F” grades, since the new grade will replace the “F”.
Q: I did very well this semester, why was I placed on Suspension?
A: Suspension is based on your cumulative GPA not the current semester GPA.
