Free Disaster Planning Courses Available

The Homeland Security Management Institute at Monroe Community College is offering free training to community and civic groups, schools, businesses and nonprofit organizations that will help better prepare our area in case of a natural or intentional disaster.
Instructors will provide training at the organization or business location on one of three topics: Computer and Internet Security, Public Health Emergencies, Business Continuity Planning and Family and Community Preparedness . The courses run about four hours. A minimum of 15 people are required in order to schedule a face to face training session. However, these courses are also available free on-line.
- HSMI 143 Computer and Internet Security
HSMI 144 Public Health Emergencies
HSMI 145 Business Continuity Planning
- HSMI 146 Family and Community Preparedness
Computer and Internet Security will increase participants’ knowledge and awareness of information security as it relates to the growing danger of attacks on private digital information. Training will cover laws and regulations, threats, vulnerabilities and information resources. Public Health Emergencies will review action and response plans, the epidemiology and etiology of biological agents, public reaction and strategies to address public reaction to biological incidents, and the systems involved in communication and information technology as well as the necessary business continuity following a biological incident. Business continuity will help administrative leadership prepare their organization for threats by examining issues including risk assessment, business impact analysis, the cost of protection, and writing a plan.
