Fieldwork Questions (and answers)line

I’ve completed my 115/75 hours, can I stop going to fieldwork?
No! The requirement is nine hours per week, all semester. You can end your fieldwork one week before classes end.

Can I do 15 hours a week and stop at mid-semester?
No! The requirement is nine hours per week, all semester.

I worked at a camp 40 hours/week all summer; do those hours count?
No. Seminar and fieldwork are co-requisites and must be taken together.

Can I do fewer than 9 hours/week as long as I get my 75/115 hours in by the end of the semester?
No! The requirement is nine hours per week, all semester.

Who picks out my fieldwork?
You will fill out an online survey indicating your interests and availability. The Fieldwork Coordinator will secure a possible fieldwork site for you.

Who finds a fieldwork site for me?
Our fieldwork Coordinator does, using the information you and your instructor provide.

How much time must I give to fieldwork?
Nine hours each week from the time you receive your placement until semester’s end.

What will I do in my fieldwork?
A variety of things that relate to the type of fieldwork you choose, and set forth in a fieldwork Learning Contract that you and your fieldwork supervisor arrange.

I work in a human services community agency. Could I use my job for fieldwork?
Your position and responsibilities need to be discussed with the fieldwork Coordinator or your Human Services instructor, but you could possibly use your job for fieldwork.

What fieldwork sites are available to me?
We have over 1000 including these:

Nursing Homes – such as Episcopal Church Home and Edna Tina Wilson Living Center.

Child care and Nursery Schools – such as MCC Child Care Center and Salvation Army State Street Day Care.

Schools – such as Rochester City Schools, School of the Holy Childhood, Rush Henrietta, Penfield, Irondequoit, Greece and some rural schools in our area.

Special Education Programs – such as Crestwood Children’s Center, BOCES I and II, Hillside Children’s Center and Mary Cariola Children’s Center.

Mental Health and Developmental Services – such as Rochester Psychiatric Center, Fingerlakes DDSO, and United Cerebral Palsy Association.

Community Service Agencies – such as Boys and Girls Club of Rochester, Lewis Street Center, Open Door Mission and Baden Street Settlement.
