Professor Joe Sturnick has been on the faculty full-time since 2005 and prior to that as an adjunct since 1995. In 2005 he retired from a 30-year career in law enforcement that included four years with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department (Parks/Marine Unit and Road Patrol) and then 26 years with the Rochester Police Department. He retired as a Police Captain.
During his time with the RPD, he worked in an assortment of assignments and ranks. Most of his experiences were based in Patrol as a Police Officer, Investigator, Sergeant, Lieutenant and Captain, but he also enjoyed several positions in investigations and administration. Some of these assignments included Field Training Officer, Background and Recruitment Researcher, Recruit Class Counselor, Supervisor Class Counselor, Administrative Aid to (then) Deputy Chief Robert J. Duffy, Commanding Officer for the Information Systems Unit, Staff Duty Officer, Commanding Officer for the Goodman Patrol Section and then Executive Captain for the newly formed East Side Patrol Division. It was from that position that he retired.
Educational experiences include attending the FBI National Academy Graduate, Session 214, Masters in Public Administration (S.U.N.Y. Brockport), B.S., (Criminal Justice, S.U.N.Y. Brockport), A.A.S., (Police Science, Monroe Community College)
