He holds a B.A. in Political Science from St. John Fisher College and a Master of Public Administration from the State University of New York. Prior to becoming a full-time faculty member, he served as an adjunct for six years at the State University of New York College at Brockport and as an adjunct at Monroe Community College. He is retired after twenty years of service from the Monroe County’s Sheriff’s Department where he served as patrol sergeant, planning and research officer, police trainer and SWAT commander. He also is a police instructor at the Criminal Justice and Public Safety Training Center. Prof. Thompson has been awarded the Teaching Excellence Award by the National Institute of Organizational and Staff Development. Prof. Thompson also serves on the College Compact for Service Learning Advisory Committee.
