Academic advisement is a developmental process that is integral to student success. Please use this checklist as a guide for understanding the roles and responsibilities for both you and your advisor.
To prepare for your advisement session, please take time beforehand to:
- Think about your career interests and future goals.
- Review your Academic Transcript and write down any questions or concerns you have regarding your major or course requirements.
To view your Academic Transcript, login to your Banner account by going to www.monroecc.edu, click on Quick Links, Student Records, login (using your M# or Social Security #, followed by your pin number), select Student & Financial Aid, Student Records, and Academic Transcript.
- Review course selections according to your program requirements and educational goals. Write down at least five courses you are interested in taking.
- Be familiar with Banner and how to register for classes.
To search for available classes, login to your Banner account by going to www.monroecc.edu, click on Quick Links, Student Records, login (using your M# or Social Security #, followed by your pin number), select Student & Financial Aid, Registration, and Look Up Classes.
- Determine your outside commitments and how these will affect scheduling your courses.
When you meet with your advisor, he/she will assist you with:
- Exploring educational and career goals
- Assisting with self-assessment and decision making skills
- Choosing majors and programs
- Selecting courses based on your interests, values, and skills
- Selecting courses based on general education or degree requirements
- Registering courses through Banner
