Photo Exhibit: “Neighborhood Phantoms: The Vanishing
Neighborhood Movie Theater”
At the LeRoy V Good Library
Before the multiplex and the mall theaters, people living in the
City of Rochester didn't have to travel very far to find their
entertainment. Dozens of neighborhood theaters -- from the
simple movie house all the way to the opulent movie palace --
were at one time scattered throughout Rochester. Today,
only two remain as theaters, The Little and The Cinema.
But if you scour the old neighborhoods, you'll find many of the
old theater buildings still standing, often abandoned, sometimes
repurposed. This display of photographs shows several
examples of movie theater buildings as they appeared in the late
1980's. Below are some additional pictures not included in
the exhibit.
The display is located in the Brighton Campus library foyer.

Book Display: “Service Learning at MCC”
At the Damon City Campus Library
In coordination
with the Service Learning Department,
the Damon City Campus Library has created a thematic book
display, located in the atrium on the fourth floor, next to the
Library door.
The goal of the
display is to introduce the Service Learning Department and its
valuable programs to those that might not be familiar with the
department’s focus on enriching MCC student learning and
addressing community-defined needs through student civic
engagement. Service learning combines civic engagement with
academic coursework in a way that benefits both the student and
the community.
If you wish to
check out the displayed items, please come to the Library and
ask for assistance.
