Grammar and Writing Links

  • Guide to Grammar and Writing - Highlights of this site from Capital Community College include: information on parts of a sentence, how to develop a paragraph, and the process of writing an essay and research paper.

  • MCC Writing Center - The MCC Writing Center is located on the Brighton Campus in Bldg. 11 Rm. 208. Writing Center staff are available to assist you with questions you may have about grammar usage, the writing process, and citing styles.

Online Citation Style Guides

  • The MCC Guide to Writing Research Papers  - A publication developed by the MCC Libraries and English department Faculty to serve as a guide to the information research process. Contents include: how to cite print and electronic resources using examples from the American Psychological Association (APA), Modern Language Association (MLA), and Council of Science Editors (CSE) style manuals.

  • APA Style Help - This web page from the American Psychological Association (APA) provides links to access various APA Style  Learning Resources, Tutorials, and the APA Style Blog.

  • APA Formatting and Style Guide - This guide from the Purdue University Online Writing Lab (OWL) provides formatting help and specific citing examples for APA Style. Also refer to the OWL APA Style Workshop.

  • Chicago Manual of Style Citation Guide - From the Ohio State University Libraries this guide provides examples of the "Author-Date" and "Notes-Bibliography" citation styles based on the The Chicago Manual of Style 15th ed. rev. (University of Chicago Press, 2003).

  • MLA Formatting and Style Guide - This guide from the Purdue University Online Writing Lab (OWL) provides citing and formatting help for MLA Style.

  • Turabian Quick Guide - From the University of Chicago Press, publishers of A Manual for Writers of Term Papers, Theses, and Dissertations, 7th. ed., 2007, by Kate Turabian, this quick guide provides citation examples for books, articles, and online resources.

Citation Helpers

The following citation helpers will assist you in creating citations for sources used for your assignments. Be sure to check the citations generated by these programs as they may require some editing. Also consult the appropriate citing style manual for exact formatting and punctuation guidelines for the particular citing style you are using.

  • Bibme - The fully automatic web-based bibliography maker that can search out and create citations in APA, MLA, Chicago, and Turabian style formats for books, articles, encyclopedias, films, interviews, lectures, radio/television. It also allows for manual entry of data, and free accounts for online storage and retrieval of bibliographies. It exports a finished works cited page in .rtf format.

  • Citation Builder - Created by the North Carolina State University (NCSU) Libraries, the Citation Builder will help you create citations for journal articles, books, and websites in Modern Language Style (MLA), American Psychological Association Style (APA), and Council of Science Editors (CSE) format.

  • Citation Machine - Part of the "Landmarks for Schools" website for teachers, the Citation Machine is an interactive web tool designed to assist students with creating works cited citations in Modern Language Style (MLA), American Psychological Association Style (APA), Chicago, and Turabian format.

  • KnightCite - From the Heckman Library of Calvin College, Grand Rapids, Michigan, Knightcite helps you build citations in APA, MLA and Chicago style format for books, anthologies, periodicals (magazine, journal and newspaper articles), multimedia and communication (radio or TV programs and personal interviews).

  • Zotero - A free downloadable Firefox extension that helps you collect, manage, and cite your research sources in APA, MLA, or Chicago style format. It automatically captures citation information from periodical databases, library catalogs, and web pages to create a works cited/bibliography page. Note: You must have the Mozilla Firefox 2.0 (or higher) browser installed on your computer in order to use this tool. It will not work with Internet Explorer. Zotero can also be integrated into MS Word and OpenOffice software. See the Zotero website for further information.
