Distance Learning Resources a guide for instructors

Library Services Available to Distance Learning Instructors at MCC

  • Identification of relevant web sites to support course content and assignments. To view examples of web sites created for various MCC online courses go to the MCC Libraries SUNY Learning Network (SLN) Course Web Links page.

  • Preparation of general & subject specific Library research guides and
    online tutorials.

  • Identification of Library article databases available to support course assignments.

  • If you have documents such as PowerPoint presentations, class notes, class syllabuses, solutions, video clips, audio clips or articles that you would like your students to be able to access from the Web, both on and off campus, Electronic Reserves is your solution. General Information on Distance Learning

  • distance-educator.com - A distance learning site established for professionals in 1995 which presents news stories, research studies and surveys and other items of interest to distance educators.
  • Distance Education Training Council - A non-profit association founded in 1926 to serve as a clearinghouse for information about the field of distance education. The Council also advocates for accreditation standards and ethical practices within distance education programs.
  • Distance Education Clearinghouse - A site managed and maintained by the University of Wisconsin-Extension which includes distance education information from Wisconsin, national, and international sources.

Copyright Information

  • United States Copyright Office - The Library of Congress - Presents an overview of copyright basics including a link to the Summary of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998.
  • Copyright and Fair Use - Stanford University Libraries - Provides web links to additional copyright web sites, legal cases, organizations and associations, and fair use issues regarding multimedia.
  • Copyright Metro - This online tutorial from Baruch College helps faculty to determine the appropriate copyright guidelines to follow when using audio, images, and audiovisual media in their courses.
  • Resources for Copyright Issues - Current copyright guidelines and legislation in distance education. The links are compiled by the Distance Learning Section of the Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL).
