Criminal Justice Periodicals Index (CJPI)

Locating Articles in the CJPI

Use the Criminal Justice Periodicals Index, CJPI, to search for articles on corrections administration, drug enforcement, family law, industrial security, law enforcement, and rehabilitation. The database includes abstract and indexing for over 230 titles, many available in full-text, from 1981 to the present time.

Accessing MCC Libraries Article Databases

  • Go to http://www.monroecc.edu/go/library
  • If on-campus, click "Find articles and online databases" and choose
        "Criminal Justice" from the list of subject headings
  • If off-campus, click “Access from Home” and follow directions to log-in
  • Click on Criminal Justice Periodicals Index to access the search screen
  • Basic Search

    • Type your Keywords into the Search Box and click Search.

    • To limit your results to full-text articles check the "Full text documents only box."

    • Use "quotation marks" to search for exact phrases.

    • 2 word queries (such as Juvenile Justice) are searched as an exact phrase.

    • 3 word queries (such as, Prisoners Drug Use) are searched as words that need to appear close to each other.

    • If you are not receiving ANY hits, check your spelling.

    Interpreting Search Results

    • Check the "Suggested Topics" to narrow or broaden your search results.

    • Click on the title of the article, "Full text," or "Full Text - PDF" to see the full text of the selected article.

    • Articles may be printed, emailed, saved to a storage device or added to a folder created in CJPI.

    • Citations may be created in MLA, APA or Chicago style format to include in your bibliography or works cited list.

    Alternative Search Methods
    Use the tabs to select Advanced or Topics search. Use Advanced Search to narrow by publication type, publication date, document type, people, etc.
    Enter keywords into the Topic Guide and receive suggestions of subjects to research with links to articles.
