How to Find a Magazine/Journal Article
line

Magazines and journals can give you the most up-to-date information on your topic. To find an article, use one of the Library’s indexes, in paper format or electronic.

Electronic Sources

  1. Go to the Library’s website (http://www.monroecc.edu/go/library), click
"Find articles and online databases" then choose one of the listed databases. If off-campus, click "Access from Home" and follow directions to log-in to EZproxy.
  2. Search on your subject (for example, Iraq and Shiites).
  3. You can limit your search by date, publication (title of journal or magazine), full-text, or scholarly (peer reviewed) journals by using the limiters listed.
  4. From the returned results, choose the articles that are best for your needs or return to the search screen and search on other terms.

Bound Sources

The Library has many paper indexes to help you find articles on your topic. Some are subject specific, such as the Art Index, and others, such as The New York Times Index and the Reader’s Guide to Periodical Literature, index information on all types of topics.

  1. Look up your subject alphabetically in the index.
  2. Choose pertinent articles from the list under your subject.
  3. Copy down all of the information (citation) from the articles you wish to find, including the title, author, journal, volume, pages and date.

    4.   Check the Library’s online catalog to determine if we own the journal
          you would like to see.

    5.   Find the journal and your article. Clicking on the Availability link will tell
you which issues of a journal we own and where they are located in the
          Library.
    6.   If the Library does not own the journal you need, you may be able to
obtain a copy of the article through Interlibrary Loan. See a Librarian
for additional information about this service.
