Usually brief, with illustrations added. Longer articles, sometimes   20+ pages.

Advertisements

Yes, lots,
including inserts.
 Few if any.

Authorship

Staff writers/journalists. Experts and scholars in the subject that the journal is covering.

Audience

General public. Even magazines for specific subjects try to attract
a wide reading  audience.
Professionals and scholars use journals to communicate the latest findings in their field. Audience is usually limited.

Review Process

Staff editors not
experts review articles.
Usually a panel of experts or scholars review articles for inclusion in a journal. These journals are considered "peer-reviewed" or "referred".

Publisher

Commercial
publishing firms.
Professional organizations and societies; sometimes non-profit groups and foundations.

Appearance

Glossy cover with photos or colorful graphics. Lots of color throughout; many illustrations and photographs. Plain cover; often has a title like Journal of ... No color photos. Many articles include graphs and tables, and report findings of research studies.

Bibliographies included with articles?

       No.

Yes. Professionals and scholars reading the articles want to see what sources the authors have used.
