  • Back Pain at Work: Preventing Aches, Pains and Injuries - This article from MayoClinic.com provides information on the causes of back pain, and tips on how to prevent back injuries.

  • National Institute for Occupational Health and Safety (NIOSH) - "The federal agency responsible for conducting research and making recommendations for the prevention of work-related injury and illness." Topics to explore on this site include: Industries & Occupations, Hazards & Exposures, Diseases & Injuries, Chemicals, Safety & Prevention, Emergency Preparedness & Response, and Data & Statistics.

  • Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) - This website provides information about OSHA's standards; training, outreach, and education activities; partnerships; and programs for continual improvement in workplace safety and health to assure the safety and health of America's workers.

  • Mine Safety & Health Administration (MSHA) - "The mission of MSHA is to is to administer the provisions of the Federal Mine Safety and Health Act of 1977 (Mine Act) and to enforce compliance with mandatory safety and health standards as a means to eliminate fatal accidents; to reduce the frequency and severity of nonfatal accidents; to minimize health hazards; and to promote improved safety and health conditions in the Nation's mines."

  • U.S. Department of Labor - "The Department of Labor fosters and promotes the welfare of the job seekers, wage earners, and retirees of the United States. In carrying out this mission, the Department administers a variety of Federal labor laws including those that guarantee workers’ rights to safe and healthful working conditions."   • AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety - "The mission of the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety is to identify traffic safety problems, foster research that seeks solutions, and disseminate information and educational materials."

  • Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) - An independent, nonprofit, organization dedicated to reducing the losses — deaths, injuries, and property damage — from crashes on the nation's highways. This site provides access to: Vehicle Safety Ratings, Consumer Brochures & Videos, Research & Stats, and Laws & Regulations. A link is also provided to access the Status Report newsletter.

  • Motor Vehicle Safety - Categories of motor vehicle safety information to explore on this page from MedlinePlus® include: Overviews, Latest News, Specific Conditions, Related Issues, Statistics, Children, Teenagers, and Seniors.

  • National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) - NHTSA is responsible for reducing deaths, injuries and economic losses resulting from motor vehicle crashes by setting and enforcing safety performance standards for motor vehicles and motor vehicle equipment, and by conducting effective local highway safety programs. Categories to explore on this site include:  Traffic Safety, Vehicles/Equipment, Laws/Regulations/Guidance, and Vehicle Safety Research.

  • New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (NYSDMV) - The NYSDMV website provides information about its services for drivers, businesses, and vehicle owners including access to numerous online forms and publications. You will also find links to other information on vehicle safety, traffic safety, NYS vehicle and traffic law.

  • American Red Cross - The website provides information about disaster and emergency relief services provided by the American Red Cross. This site provides guidelines on how to prepare a disaster supplies kit for your home, and how to form a disaster preparedness plan. The guidelines are also available in the Get a Kit, Make a Plan, Be Informed tutorial.

  • Rochester Red Cross: Disaster Planning - Prepared by the American Red Cross Greater Rochester Chapter and the Homeland Security Management Institute at Monroe Community College, this document provides disaster planning guidelines for senior citizens and their family members. A worksheet is also included at the end of the document to list important telephone numbers and emergency contact information.

  • Centers for Disease Control (CDC) - Categories to explore on this site include: Diseases & Conditions, Emergency Preparedness & Response, Environmental Health, Injury, Violence & Safety, Workplace Safety & Health.

  • U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) - This site provides information about the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's role in the following areas:  Counterterrorism; Border Security; Preparedness, Response, Recovery; and Immigration.

  • Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) - An agency of the US government which participates in disaster mitigation, preparedness, response & recovery planning following any national disaster incident.

  • Geology.com - Geology.com is published by Hobart King, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Geology at Mansfield University of Pennsylvania. This site provides information on current events, articles, maps, and news related to Geology and Earth Science topics.

  • National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) - NOAA is a federal agency within the U.S. Department of Commerce and is a trusted source of accurate and objective scientific information in four particular areas of national and global importance: ecosystems, climate, weather & water, commerce & transportation.

  • Natural Disasters - These pages from MedlinePlus® provide links to information on natural disaster preparation and recovery. Topics covered include: earthquakes, fires, floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, and winter weather emergencies.

  • World Health Organization (WHO) - This site provides information about the WHO's role in international health crisis and emergencies, disease outbreaks, and natural disasters as they relate to social well being.   • Injury, Violence & Safety - This page on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website provides tips for preventing injury & violence; safety tips for home, school & work; safety tips when traveling & at play; links to learn about various safety campaigns & programs; as well as links to data & statistics, publications, and other safety related tools.

  • Family Violence Prevention Fund - The Family Violence Prevention Fund works to prevent violence within the home, and in the community. Program links to explore on this site include: Children & Families, Judicial, Global Prevention, Immigrant Women, Public Policy, Teens, and Workplace.

  • Healthy Homes - From the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), this pages offers health and safety tips on things you can do at home to protect your health and lower your risk for the leading causes of death. You can search for tips by room, by topic, for a green home, or for specific audiences.

  • Health & Safety in the Home, Workplace, and Outdoors - The site from the NYS Department of Health provides links to fact sheets, guidelines, and reports on a wide range of topics including air quality, drinking water, and radon.

  • Home Safety Council® (HSC) - "The Home Safety Council® (HSC) is the only national nonprofit organization solely dedicated to preventing home related injuries that result in nearly 20,000 deaths and 21 million medical visits on average each year." Through national programs, partnerships and the support of volunteers, HSC educates people of all ages to be safer in and around their homes. This site provides links to information on home safety tips pertaining to all age groups including babies and toddlers, pre-school and middle age children, and older adults.
