MTH 205 TECHNICAL MATHEMATICS III
The purpose of this course is to develop an intuitive
feeling for mathematical methods without emphasizing mathematical rigor.
The graphing calculator is incorporated into the continued study of analytic
geometry, limits, derivatives, and integration to solve practical problems
from various technologies.
A comprehensive departmental final exam testing the degree of mastery
of the following course objectives is required as well as proficiency
in using a graphing calculator.
1. General objectives
1.1 Review and build upon the use of the graphing calculator.
1.2 Enter and run a prewritten calculator program.
2. Conic Sections
2.1 Identify conic sections given their equations.
2.2 Write equations and graph conic sections given pertinent information.
3. Limits
3.1 Calculate limits algebraically.
3.2 Determine limits from a graph or table of values.
4. Derivatives
4.1 Define and apply the meaning of derivative.
4.2 Differentiate algebraic and transcendental functions.
4.3 Apply the derivative to motion, related rates, curve sketching,
and maximum or minimum problems.
5. Integration
5.1 Find antiderivatives of algebraic and transcendental functions.
5.2 Evaluate indefinite integrals using initial value information.
5.3 Evaluate definite integrals.
5.4 Use the numerical integration techniques of the Trapezoidal Rule
and Simpson’s Rule.
5.5 Use the indefinite and definite integral in applied problems.
