Damon City Campus at Renaissance Square: Proposed
Renaissance Square will integrate a downtown transit center with an urban campus of Monroe Community College and a performing arts complex. Currently, the Damon City Campus (DCC) is located in downtown Rochester, in space rented by MCC, and provides a variety of career and transfer programs leading to associate degrees or certificates.
The Damon City Campus component of Renaissance Square includes construction and furnishing of approximately 200,000 gross square feet of new/renovated space. Enrollment is projected at 1600 full-time equivalent students (FTE's).
It is anticipated that the campus will house the following degree and certificate programs: non-credit programs, and/or course offerings, business, liberal arts, teacher education, human services, criminal justice and visual and performing arts (proposed). Credit and non-credit training opportunities will also be offered. Opportunities for additional higher educational curricula are in the planning stages.
The campus is envisioned to be a full-service campus housing the following services and functions: counseling and career services, campus center, dining services, bookstore, public safety, the MCC Foundation, Inc. and grant funded programs. Academically, the facility design will include "smart" classrooms, general-purpose classrooms, labs, a library, learning/media centers, faculty offices and other instructional spaces.
The design of the complex is in progress under the leadership of Moshe Safdie, an internationally known architect, as the overall design architect, as well as other consultants.
Projected Occupancy: Fall, 2011.
