Office of the President

Monroe Community College has been a leading resource in innovative education and training for over 40 years. Ranked among the top 10 of associate degree granting institutions in the country, MCC enrolls approximately 37,000 students each year and is the college of choice for 60 percent of Monroe County students who attend college part time.

MCC’s primary focus has always been and continues to be our students and their success. An increasing number of our graduates are building upon their MCC success by attending four-year colleges and universities. Members of the Class of 2004 transferred to 136 different colleges and universities throughout the nation.

We are currently working on some significant projects that speak directly to fundamental tenets of our mission - access and student success.

The first is MCC’s Damon City Campus at Renaissance Square, an urban arm of the College that will be conjoined with a downtown transit center and a performing arts complex. Renaissance Square is the largest development project in our community’s history and we are excited to be a part of the kind of visionary initiative that will positively impact the dynamics of the downtown community.

In addition to the Renaissance Square project, plans are also underway for the construction of additional residence halls. Since building MCC’s first residence halls, Alice Holloway Young Commons in 2003, student interest in on-campus housing has continued to grow. By September 2007, a new 366-bed facility located at the north end of the Brighton Campus will allow more students to benefit from the well-rounded collegiate life that MCC works so hard to provide.

Throughout my many years in higher education, I have found there is no substitute for real world experiences and I’ve worked hard to build programs that give our students the advantage of those opportunities. A few years ago, we completed a new campus center, a space designed to expand community opportunities and enhance the learning and leadership opportunities for our students. Today, a new synthetic turf field and plans for a field house further support our co-curricular programs, especially our national championship athletic teams.

Since its founding in 1961, the College has made a significant impact on the Greater Rochester region. Today, MCC’s Homeland Security Management Institute has become a vital resource preparing business and industry, public officials, schools, citizens and first-responders for public safety crises. The Institute has also become a national model for homeland security training.

Today, MCC continues to positively affect the direction of our students while making a major contribution to the economic growth of our region as well. As the fourth president of Western New York's largest college, I am proud to lead an institution that has consistently proven to be such an effective and committed community partner.

I hope the information included here will begin to acquaint you with the dynamics of one of the most highly regarded community colleges in the country - Monroe Community College.
