LAW ENFORCEMENT EDUCATION PROGRAMS 
The Law Enforcement Training Unit of the Public Safety Training Center is a group of
the following programs.
Police Recruit Basic - This certificate program is designed
to develop the skills necessary for police officers and deputy sheriffs to meet the
challenges of a Law Enforcement career. Enrollment is limited to recruit officers
employed or sponsored by a Law Enforcement Agency.
Police In-Service - This education program provides career-long
professional development and training opportunities. The program is designed to meet the
needs of the community, as well as the goals, objectives, and legal requirements of
criminal justice agencies to assure professional service. This is accomplished by
bringing together criminal justice and community resources to develop a well coordinated,
cohesive education/training program responsive to areas of mutual interest. The
Training Center is fully accredited by the New York State Bureau of Municipal Police,
which awards certificates upon completion of our specialty programs.
Corrections Deputy Basic - This course examines the operations
of the Criminal Justice System with special emphasis on the role and responsibility of
the corrections officer. It is a knowledge and skill-based program that prepares a
student for a career in the field of corrections. A state certificate is awarded upon
successful completion. A student must be hired and sworn as a corrections officer.
Security Guard - These programs are designed to meet the
requirements for certification of Security Guards set forth by the New York State
Bureau for Municipal Police.
Probation - This course is designed to meet the requirements
set forth by the New York State Division of Probation and Correctional Alternatives for
a basic probation officer.
