EXTERNAL CARDIAC PACING

Each student gets a chance to actually pace a real person.
For once the students can cause the instructor some pain :)
Not only do we use modern electronic pacing simulators,
but we also give the students real world training!
Note that the external pacemaker has to be set above the
native heart rate of Peter's SA node. Settings at this
class session were Rate 110, Current 60 mA. Remember that
skeletal muscle contraction is not capture... capture is
an electrical event observed on the ECG by identifying a QRS and T wave. Mechanical capture must be determined by feeling the femoral pulse.
